Mother Butler

The Mother Butler Guild is an organization of Catholic women whose main concern is the sanctification of its members and their fellowmen through the service to the Lord in the care and beautification of the altar.
History

The Guild is named after its Foundress Mother Marie Joseph Butler, an Irish nun of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who also founded the Marymount College in America. Her outstanding love for Jesus in the Eucharist impelled a devotion towards the care and upkeep of the altar. The late Rufino Cardinal Santos established the Mother Butler Guild of the Archdiocese of Manila on April 28, 1961.

Membership

Dedicated women who are willing to share their valuable time to take care of the altar and serve Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament are welcome to join this organization.

The dimensions in the life of a Mother Butler are:

  • Study – Attending meetings, Bible studies, retreats and seminars

  • Work – Performing assigned tasks like sewing vestments and altar linens; keeping the altar clean and beautiful at all times; arranging flowers and preparing the materials needed for the mass. Members must also be familiar with the Liturgical vestments, linens and vessels used during Liturgical celebrations.

  • Prayer - Attending weekly prayer meetings to talk to the Lord through prayers, meditations and reflections. Members also pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament every time the altar and the Sacred Vessels are cleaned.
